Nerja, (pronounced Near-ha) is found on the eastern most tip of the Costa del Sol.
The continually thriving area has retained its Andalucian character, of narrow cobbled streets and whitewashed houses. In the centre of the town you will find the Balcon de Europa. Tourists flock there armed with cameras to snap the breathtaking views across the Mediterranean Sea. Nerja boasts nine beaches, which amount to more than 15kms. The most popular and sandy of these is Burriana Beach, where there are an alarming amount of English restaurants and bars. But there are also Spanish restaurants. At Ayo’s paella is cooked in huge pans over log fires, catering for up to 100 people at a time.

In addition to the numerous shops, there is plenty to investigate in Nerja. The Cueva de Nerja, located in Maro (just five minutes from Nerja town centre) contains the world's biggest stalactite!

Many expats have chosen to set up home in Nerja and it is a popular tourist spot, so if full English breakies and fish n chips are what you're after head here and be happy! There is also a mini train known as the Wally Trolley, which zips around the town full of excited passengers, who can’t be bothered to walk. If you’re the dining out sort rest assured that there are over 900 restaurants throughout the town. Night birds should put on their dancing shoes and go to Plaza Tutti Frutti, the night club area, which heaves with loud music from 10pm till the wee hours.

Spend a day exploring and find out why Nerja is frequently described as the Costa del Sol's best kept secret. Well it was a secret. But not any more!!
