Tapas are essentially snacks.
The word means "cover" and stems from the tradition of placing a kind of lid - perhaps bread or a flat piece of card - on top of a drink to protect it from flies. At some point it became the done thing to top this cover with a snack of some kind.
It's common for bars to have six to eight different types of tapas in warming trays. More often than not seafood sits among the
varieties, along with olives, pork in tomato sauce and some kind of pepper dish.
Each tapa is no more than a bite, but you can make a meal of them by ordering larger portions, called raciones.

These are the big fish you need to contact when hoping to
connect to the telephone in Spain. I am now a proud owner of a Telefonica line and it all happened within just five days. Think I might have broken a record there!
