They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day and the Spanish must agree as they have two!

Before leaving for work they eat a light bite of toast, biscuits or perhaps cereal, but come 10am it's time for another break.

Most Spaniards head to the local café and order huge coffees and toasted baps bursting with typical fillings of ham, tomato and cheese. Homemade pates are also a popular 'second breakfast' choice.

I wonder what they think of our fry-ups?!

Sweet things.

Very sweet-toothed are the Spanish.
They love tucking into a nice pastry, or a fat slice of cake, usually smothered in chocolate or crammed with cream.
Youngsters (and some adults) regularly visit small sweetie booths to purchase a range of colourful jellies and the like, not dissimilar to the good old Pic N Mix you find in shops like Woolies back home.

Then there is the icecream! There are tonnes of heladerias here in Spain, especially along the coast, and come the summer these are packed full of holidaying Spaniards, who indulge in huge glasses of the cold stuff containing different flavoured icecreams and usually arranged in an enticing manner.

I often wonder if the sweet-toothed factor results in the big tum big bum problem here.
